Well, it's been awhile since I last posted and do I got a story to tell. Let me rephrase that, I have some "stories" to tell.
It all started on a dreary Monday morning. Actually, it was a rather nice day out, but I figured I'd add the dreary part in for effect. Oh, and it all actually started on a Sunday evening. Out of the blue, I started getting a stomach pain that was almost unbearable. On top of this, I felt achy, so I decided to take some NyQuil to help me sleep and hopefully get rid of the pain. Upon waking up, the pain had only increased. Thinking I just had a really bad stomach ache, I decided to take some Pepto Bismol and head on into work.
With every bump the seatbelt put more and more pressure on my abdomen, causing excruciating pain. By the time I arrived, I'm not sure if I actually couldn't move, or if I just didn't want to because the pain was just too great. Sitting in the parking lot, I called my manager and she promptly came out to see what was going on. Before I knew it I was on my way to the hospital in the back of an ambulance. Of all the times I have seen go by and wondered about the person in the back of it, I was now that guy.
After taking some x-rays and pressing feverishly onto my stomach, the doctor had determined I had appendicitis. A couple hours later, I was coming out of the deep sleep they put me into and the surgery was over. The best way to describe the before and after pain is simple. Beforehand, it felt like Mike Tyson (Iron Mike, not ear-biting Mike), punched me as hard as he could in my stomach and I had no idea it was coming. Post-surgery, while still uncomfortable, felt more like Sarah (my 4'11", 107lb. wife) had punched me. Funny thing about all this, is within the past 2 years or so, my younger brother and sister have both had appendectomies as well. I'm starting to question what type of diet my mother had us on. Hmmm?
Now don't go anywhere just yet, I told you I had "stories" to tell. This one however is nowhere near as painful, well, at least not yet and most certainly not for me. On Thursday night, May 8th, I got some proud news. I found out I was going to be a Dad! While the news was a little nerve-racking, after all it is me we are talking about, I was overjoyed. Of course, not as overjoyed as my wife. You see, when we got married the very next sentence out of her mouth after "I do" was "So, when do we start having kids?". Even despite the fact, that it would be her going through that pain I was talking about a minute ago. She sure is something. Receiving this wonderful news did start a controversy though. Sarah thinks we are going to make the office into the baby's room, but she is sadly mistaken. The nice little spare bedroom she just finished decorating is just going to have to be undecorated, because yours truly has been waiting for his office way too long. (I'll keep you posted on the outcome of this debacle.)
Amidst all of this, softball has started, I finished my semester at school (maintaining my 4.0) and the new home landscaping has begun. I'm hoping to post some pictures of the two waterfalls and small pond I built, so check back later if you're interested.
Up next on the agenda, trying to come up with baby names!
