Hulu.com is now live. Well, it actually has been since March 12th, but nonetheless, it's here. If you aren't familiar with Hulu.com, they are an online video on demand service, which is a joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp. Basically they offer free, high-quality, ad supported, streaming television shows and movies.
There is no longer that need to go out searching for the full, 223rd season of the Simpsons on "The Pirate Bay" and waiting 3 months for the download to finish. Why? Because you can find it on Hulu.com.
Not to mention, you won't have the MPAA knocking at your doorstep. Sure, you have to watch 15 to 30 second ads every so often, but it beats the 3-5 minute ads on television and the $5 rental fee at your nearest Blockbuster.
If you can't tell, I'm really excited about this service. The fact that they are trying to launch HD content as well, just adds to my intrigue. Anything to get away from the God awful iTunes. It isn't mobile, but I don't watch videos from my iPhone anyway. Now if Microsoft would join the partnership, this could be offered through the XBox 360's Media Center Extender Online Services. If that happens, I may never leave my couch again.
All in all, Hulu is great! There a few bugs that still need to be worked out, like not just having episodes 9-13 of a show and instead having 1-13. This is being address and Hulu hopes to have this resolved in the near future. In the end, it appears that the movie and television studios are finally getting it right with Hulu.com! Free content, easily accessible and on my schedule. RIAA, are you taking notes?!? Doubtful.
